Ever since Facebook Owned Instagram started copying the Social Media Giant Snapchat, in a big way, Snapchat is working really very hard to stand itself ou of the crown and bring something new and original for its users. Last year, Snapchat hit a mark of 203 million daily active users. The number may be lower than Instagram but it certainly shows some growth. Snapchat has added a lot of new and useful features over the last several months, it seems like Snapchat may be on the verge of getting a major redesign anytime soon. A recent report suggests Snapchat is testing out some bold new features and interface for its app, which could help Snapchat to reshape its existing app.
Snapchat is said to be testing its redesigned interface among a small group of users. The tipsters suggest the redesign would bring five distinct sections in all and a new navigation bar at the bottom of the app. The black navigation bar at the bottom of the screen, on the upcoming version on Snapchat, will link to the Snap Map, Chat, Camera, Community, and Discover sections. Currently, it is split into three sections – Chat, Camera and discover, the company could be looking to expand these into five, eventually.
The Snap Map may finally get its own dedicated section. For now, the users have to swipe down on the main camera section. It’s nearly impossible to access Snap Maps from any other area in the App. A new section called Community, which looks like the current Discover screen would feature connect from recommendations and people you follow.
Snapchat’s reported new redesign may make the app’s interface much easier to use, especially for the newcomers. Currently, new users found Snapchat extremely difficult to make sense of the app. Small design changes that have been made in the Snapchat app over the past few months have helped users, but the reported major redesign of the app may take things to the whole new level for the newcomers. Snapchat is also planning to add a new “News” section that may be titled as “Happening Now”, and it would offer curated news headlines from Snap’s select set of partners.
The last time when Snapchat made a redesign for its app, it dint really go well most users. An online petition called for the removal of the redesign with over 600,000 users signing it.
There’s no clear word on when this massive redesign will roll out to all users. Since it’s currently being tested, it’s obvious that Snap may or may not go ahead with all the changes.
