Indian Govt a few days back banned 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, UC Browser, CamScanner in India due to potential security threats.
Following the government’s announcement, internet service providers like Airtel and Vodafone began blocking access to these banned apps in the country. This made sure that if you have any of those 59 banned Chinese apps installed on your phone, you won’t be able to use it on any of the ISPs. This caused people to use VPN services to use banned apps like TikTok in India. It seems that is not possible anymore as well.
Using a Virtual Proxy Network or VPN will seemingly not let you access TikTok in India. Many users are reporting on Twitter and other social media platforms, about the VPN apps like Nord VPN and Express VPN not allowing users to access TikTok in India.
A VPN app allows you to mask your internet protocol (IP) address so your online actions are virtually untraceable. They can also trick the internet into believing you’re accessing a website from another country. This helps in accessing websites and apps that are restricted in a particular country or place.
Some users on Twitter are saying that they are unable to access TikTok using a VPN app, while some users are saying they are able to access the banned Chinese apps without any issues. We personally tried accessing the TikTok mobile app using a VPN service to no success. However, TikTok can be accessed through a laptop’s Web Browser when using a VPN service.
It is being speculated that TikTok is being blocked by device ID and IP address. This means that even if you mask your IP, the app won’t work if your device ID has been registered with TikTok previously. One way to bypass this as per some people is to install TikTok using a VPN on a brand new device or after rooting or resetting your exiting device.
