After a lot of hype and leaks, Oneplus has finally taken the wraps off its first mid-range phone in five years. OnePlus Nord was unveiled at a first-of-its-kind AR launch event. The Nord will first arrive in India and Europe. The Nord comes with a dual selfie camera setup, a 90HZ display, and a 5G-enabled Snapdragon 765G SoC at a very aggressive price.
Oneplus claims that the Nord will deliver a flagship camera experience. Moreover, the company also claims that it has provided almost 300 optimizations to the OnePlus Nord to provide a “Fast and Smooth” experience.
OnePlus Nord Specifications and Features
Design & Display
The first thing you will notice is that the Oneplus Nord looks a lot similar to the Realme X3. both the phones have similar kind of front and rear camera setup, but with different specs of course. The biggest differentiator is the placement of the fingerprint sensor. The Realme X3 comes with a fingerprint sensor available on the right edge which doubles as the Power button as well, whereas the Oneplus Nord features an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Upfront, the Oneplus Nord features a 6.44-inch Full HD+ Fluid AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top. The Panel boasts a 20:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. Oneplus Nord’s display comes with a 90Hz refresh rate, 180Hz touch response rate, and sRGB support.
Camera
Oneplus Nord comes with a Quad-Camera array at the rear. Oneplus Nord packs the exact same 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor which can be found on the flagship Oneplus 8. the main sense of the Onplus Nord supports both OIS as well as EIS which will help to improve the stability of the video. The Nightscape pictures have also been improved, thanks to the valuable additions to the Oneplus Nord.
The primary sensor of the Nord is paired with an 8MP ultra-wide sensor with 119-degree FOV and f/2.25 lens, a 2-megapixel macro shooter, and a 5-megapixel depth shooter – both with an f/2.4 aperture. It looks like the 2-megapixel Macro sensor is just added to bump up the camera count. Macro cameras can be fun but we have already seen that the 2MP macro camera aboard the OnePlus 8 is not the best-performing in the market.
Talking about the camera features, Oneplus Nord comes preloaded with the features like UltraShot HDR, Nightscape, Super Macro, Portrait, Pro Mode, Panorama, AI scene detection, RAW Image, Ultra-Wide Selfie and a lot more.
Oneplus Nord is capable of recording 4K videos at 30fps or 1080p videos at 30fps and 60fps. You can also record Super Slo-mo videos with the Nord at 240fps at 1080p resolution. The smartphone can also capture Time-lapse shots in both 4k as well as 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second.
You must have already noticed, the Oneplus Nord features a punch-hole display with a cutout at the top left that houses the dual-camera setup. The smartphone has a primary 32-megapixel Sony IMX616 sensor and a secondary 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera with a 105-degree FOV in the punch-hole. The exact same Selfie camera setup can also be found in the Realme X3 SuperZoom.
Performance and Battery
The Oneplus Nord is powered by the 5G-enabled Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC, which is paired with Adreno 620 GPU and up to 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM. The Snapdragon 765G SoC is integrated with the Snapdragon X52 modem, which allows the Chipset to offer download speeds up to 3.38Gbps on a 5G network.
Oneplus Nord comes with up to 256GB of onboard storage which sadly, can’t be expanded via microSD card. And this is where the company has cut some corners. The smartphone comes with UFS 2.1 storage instead of the faster UFS 3.0 storage which we have seen in the flagship Oneplus 8 and 8 Pro.
One thing that Oneplus phones are famous for is their software experience. The smartphone brings the best of both worlds — vanilla Android and useful add-on features to users with its custom OxygenOS on top. The Nord comes with OxygenOS 10.5 based on Android 10 out-of-the-box. One thing to note here is that the Oneplus has ditched its own Phone and Messaging app in favor of Google’s stock alternatives.
Having a high refresh rate display and 5G support in the Oneplus Nord makes battery an important factor for the users. The smartphone packs a 4,115mAh battery which supports the Warp Charge 30T which can charge the Oneplus Nord from 0% to 70% in around 30 minutes as claimed by Oneplus.
Connectivity Options
Oneplus Nord’s connectivity options include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.1, GPS/ A-GPS/ NavIC, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. Sensors onboard include an accelerometer, ambient light, gyroscope, magnetometer, and a proximity sensor. The phone also comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor. Besides, the phone measures 158.3×73.3×8.2mm and weighs 184 grams.
