Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro Features, Specifications, Price and More

Xiaomi’s Sub-Brand Redmi in an event on Wednesday launched Redmi Note 8 along with the Redmi Note 8 Pro in India. The Redmi Note 8 Pro is the successor of the Redmi Note 7 Pro and is said to be more powerful and also comes with the better cameras as compared to its previous generation. Xiaomi also launched Mi Air Purifier 2C and unveiled the MIUI 11 in the event. Manu Kumar Jain kicked off the event, first talking about the recent launches by the company in India, as well as its performance in the recent Amazon and Flipkart festive sales.

The First Product unveiled in the event was the Mi Air Purifier 2C. Jain said that the new Mi Air Purifier 2C is designed in India and Designed for India. It features dual filtration technology, a True HEPA filter, 360-degree air suction, CADR of 350 cubic meters an hour, real-time air quality indicator, and DIY filter change function. It is said to filter 99.7 percent of indoor pollution. The Mi Air Purifier 2C is priced at  6,499 in India and will go on sale on Mi.com, Flipkart, Amazon India, and Mi Home starting from October 18.

In the later part of the event, Xiaomi’s Sub-Brand, Redmi launched the Redmi Note 8 along with the Redmi Note 8 Pro in India.

Redmi Note 8 Specifications

The Redmi Note 8 comes with a 6.39-inch full-HD+ (1080×2280 pixels) display, with a 90 percent screen-to-body ratio, TUV Rheinland protection, and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The phone will offer a brightness of 450-nits. The display also comes with a TUV-certified reading mode.  Both the front and the back glass of the Redmi note 8 are protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 5. There’s a Waterdrop-style notch on the front.

The Redmi Note 8 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 655 SoC paired with an Adreno 610 GPU and up to 6GB of RAM. The phone comes with 2 storage options, 64GB & 128GB, which can further be expanded by a microSD card (up to 512GB). Additionally, Redmi Note 8 includes 4,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support and an 18W charger inside the box, USB Type-C port, 3.5mm audio jack, and IR blaster.

On the camera front, the Redmi Note 8 comes with a Quad-Camera setup which constitutes a 48-megapixel primary shooter with f/1.79 aperture, an 8-megapixel wide-angle shooter with 120-degree field of view and f/2.2 aperture, and two 2-megapixel cameras (one macro and one depth) with f/2.4 apertures. The Selfie Shooter is a 13-megapixel sensor with an f/2.0 aperture.

The Redmi Note 8 runs on MIUI 10 based Android 9 (Pie) and is expected to receive MIUI 11 update in December this year. Connectivity options include GPS, A-GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth v5.0, Wi-Fi Direct, and more. Audio quality is amplified by using ‘superlinear’ speakers, a larger acoustic chamber, and an auto-cleaning feature for the speaker. The phone measures at 158.3×75.3×8.35mm, and weighs 188 grams. Sensors onboard include proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, acceleration sensor, gyroscope, digital compass, and a rear fingerprint sensor. Xiaomi said its Redmi Note 8 offers durable build quality and is also Splash-resistant.

Redmi Note 8 Price in India

The Redmi Note 8 starts at 9,999 for the base 4GB of RAM and 64GB of Storage variant. The other variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is priced at 12,999. The first sale for the Redmi Note 8 will take place on October 21 at 12 noon IST. The Redmi Note 8 is available in 3 Color variants – Moonlight White, Neptune Blue, and Space Black. The phone will currently be available on Amazon India, Mi.com, and Mi Home Stores. It will soon be available in offline stores as well.

Redmi Note 8 Pro Specifications

The Redmi Note 8 Pro comes with a 6.53-inch full-HD+ (1080×2340 pixels) display with an 85 percent screen-to-body ratio, TUV Rheinland protection, and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The phone will offer a brightness of 450-nits. The display also comes with a TUV-certified reading mode. Just like the Redmi Note 8, the Redmi Note 8 Pro also comes with the waterdrop-style display notch and is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on both front and back.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio G90T SoC coupled with a Mali-G76 MC4 GPU and 6GB or 8GB of RAM. The phone also packs a liquid cooling technology to reduce heat while playing graphic-intensive games. There are also features such as the Game Turbo 2.0 mode to please mobile gamers. The phone comes in 3 variants – 6GB + 64GB, 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 128GB which can further be expanded via a microSD card(up to 512GB). The Redmi Note 8 Pro packs a 4,500mAh battery with 18W fast charging support and an 18W charger inside the box, USB Type-C port, 3.5mm audio jack, and IR blaster.

Talking about the camera, the phone comes with a Quad-camera setup that includes the 64-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.89 lens, a secondary 8-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide-angle f/2.2 lens that has a Field of View (FoV) of 120 degrees. Further, there are two 2-megapixel sensors — one with an ultra-macro lens and the other one supporting depth sensing. For selfies, the phone houses a 20-megapixel camera sensor at the front along with an f/2.0 lens.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro supports a lot of new features, including a 64MP HD, Ultra nightscape mode, AI scene detection 5.0, AI Beautify, Smart Ultra-Wide Angle mode, Portrait Mode, and 3D Lightning among others. Similarly, the front camera has features such as Panorama selfie, Palm shutter, AI scene detection, and AI studio lighting.

Redmi Note 8 Pro Price in India

The base variant of the Redmi Note 8 Pro starts at 14,999 for 6GB of RAM and 64GB of Storage. while its 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage option is priced at 15,999 and top of the line variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 Storage is priced at 17,999. The phone comes in 3 color variants – Gamma Green, Halo White, and Shadow Black. The first sale of the Redmi Note 8 Pro will commence at 12pm IST on October 21. The phone will be available on Amazon India, Mi.com, and Mi Home stores initially and will be available on offline stores soon, the company said.
