Maharashtra Cyber Police warned Indian citizens about the criminals who are sending fake links to download the “TikTok Pro” app via Whatsapp. Cyber-criminals are reportedly creating fake TikTok links to steal user data. The cyber-police urged citizens not to click on any such links received through texts or instant messaging apps.
The real TikTok app has been banned by the Government of India, along with 58 other Chinese apps. taking advantage of the situation, Criminals created a link which, if clicked, will infect your phone and will steal your personal data. In fact, in light of the escalating tensions between China and the US, even the US govt is reportedly contemplating a ban on the popular video-sharing platform. However, whether that eventually happens or not remains to be seen.
The China-based tech company, ByteDance, TikTok is trying very hard to lift the ban from TikTok. They are also making a distance from China and is considering to shift its Global headquarters outside Chinato address concerns expressed by some US lawmakers and security agencies. The company has also pulled its apps from HongKong this week after Beijing implemented a controversial new ‘security law’.
After banned by India last week, the company’s CEO, Kevin Mayer claims that the company has never handed over any data to the Chinese government and they would never do so even if Beijing asked for it. The company is also looking forward to setting up a data center in India to comply with the country’s data privacy laws.
